Holiday first aid
Nothing can ruin a holiday quicker than an accident or illness.
Away from the comforts of home, unsure where to go for emergency treatment and frustrated by the language barrier, accidents or illnesses abroad can spell disaster for the family fortnight in the sun.
As with all family health matters, of course, the key to avoiding holiday horror stories lies in preparation and prevention.
So before you go abroad, pay a visit to your local Post Office and ask for the free booklet, “Health Advice for Travellers” published by the Department of Health. Alternatively, order your copy by calling 0870 155 5455. It will give you vital facts on health risks in the area you're travelling to, tips on healthy travelling and important information on obtaining emergency medical treatment around the world.
And of course, always make sure you have a properly equipped first aid kit with you everywhere you go.
