Holiday first aid
Before you set off...
As well as your passport, tickets and currency, there are one or two other essentials you need to remember to help you enjoy a safe, worry free holiday.
Print off our checklist and keep it handy to make sure you've taken care of everything before you go:
- Check with your doctor or travel centre in good time (preferably at least two months before travel) to see if you need any jabs or malaria tablets
- Check if children need their own medication or protection from health risks. Just ask your doctor for details about immunisation and preventative measures
- If you are driving, make sure you know exactly what safety equipment you need to carry. Many countries have far stricter rules than the UK on the carriage of first aid kits, warning triangles, spare bulbs and the like. Motoring organisations such as the AA at www.theaa.com or the RAC at www.rac.co.uk will have all the latest information
- Familiarise yourself with all the emergency telephone numbers you might need in the country you are visiting. Emergency numbers for countries in Europe can be found at www.assistabroad.co.uk/useful-info.php#aa8
Finally, always prepare a first aid kit to take with you so that if accidents happen (as they occasionally do) you'll have everything you need to prevent a drama turning into a crisis.
