Sports injuries

Sport is great for all round family health and fitness. But it only takes a trip, a slip or a rash tackle and suddenly – ouch! – you’re carrying an injury.

It doesn't have to be sport at the top level, either. Even kids can come a nasty cropper when they're chasing first prize on school sports day. That's why it's important you familiarise yourself with the different kinds of sports injuries and know exactly what to do when they occur.

Sports injuries can be divided into two types; acute, like a broken bone or a sprained ankle, usually the result of sudden impact or an awkward fall; and chronic, caused by repetitive strains or poor technique over time.

Whatever kind of injury you’re dealing with, though, it's important to seek medical advice to determine the extent of the damage and get the right sort of treatment.
