Ready, steady, play...
Life is one big adventure and, through outdoor play, a child learns and develops key skills essential for helping them in life.
Playday is the national day for play, celebrated this year on Wednesday 3 August 2011, and is supported by Savlon. Take a look at the Playday events near you or see how you can host an event.
From analysing risk and developing the ability to make decisions for themselves, to building self-confidence and imagination, making time for children to play outdoors is important, and also fun!
As part of a long-running campaign to highlight the importance of play for children, Playday events will be taking place nationwide this August as the country takes time to celebrate the national day for play. Events range from:
- jubilee-style street parties
- festivals in parks or village greens
- mass adventures in woodlands and parklands
- public events at community venues
- back-garden play dates
Savlon encourages families to get their children outdoors and experience the adventure of play this summer, with Playday providing the perfect occasion to embrace the opportunity.
Playday is coordinated by Play England, part of leading children's charity the National Children's Bureau, working in partnership with Play Wales, Play Scotland and PlayBoard Northern Ireland.
