Savlon Antiseptic Cream contains active ingredients which are an effective treatment for a range of first aid uses and skin problems ranging from cuts and grazes or blisters to minor burns and scalds.

 

Savlon Antiseptic Cream

Helps to cleanse and protect wounds from infection and can be used to treat minor skin imperfections, including spots and chapped skin.

Active ingredients:

  • Cetrimide - antiseptic with antibacterial properties that acts by damaging the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria.
  • Chlorhexidine Digluconate - an antiseptic proved to be very effective at reducing bacteria.

Savlon Dual Action Gel

Contains antiseptic to help prevent infection and anaesthetic to help relieve pain, itching and irritation caused by insect bites/stings and skin reactions such as nettle rash, caused by contact with plants (suitable for children aged 12 or over).

Active ingredients:

  • Lidocaine Hydrochloride - an anaesthetic that works by temporarily blocking the pathway of pain signals along nerves to the brain
  • Zinc Sulphate - zinc sulphate has anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties

Savlon Advanced Healing Gel

Helps to soothe the pain of minor wounds and helps reduce the likelihood of scarring as it promotes faster healing by creating optimal healing conditions.

  • Hydrogel Effect - in the case of a dry wound, the gel turns a dry wound into a wet one. The dry wound absorbs the water contained in the gel, helping to reduce the likelihood of scarring.
  • Hydrocolloid Effect - in the case of a wet wound, the gel absorbs excessive fluid from the wound, restoring the water balance of the wound.

Should you put antiseptic cream on a graze?

It’s important to clean and remove any debris from a graze before applying an antiseptic, such as Savlon, to help prevent infection.

Savlon for bites & stings

  • Savlon Bites & Stings Gel works to relieve pain and itching and helps to prevent infection.
  • The Lidocaine Hydrochloride, in Savlon Bites & Stings Gel, works by temporarily blocking the pathway of nerve signals to the brain. This helps relieve itching and pain, which are common symptoms of bug bites and minor allergic reactions.

How to use: 

  1. Wash your hands prior to the application.
  2. Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly.
  3. Apply a small amount of the Savlon Bites & Stings Gel with a clean fingertip.
  4. Repeat up to 3-4 times a day, as required.

Can Savlon Bites & Stings Pain Relief Gel be used on animal bites?

Savlon Bites & Stings Gel is not suitable for use on animal bites such as dog or cat bites but is an effective treatment for insect bites and stings, such as gnat bites or bee stings. If you have been bitten by an animal, please seek medical advice from your GP or local emergency department.

Savlon for minor burns

  • For minor burns, such as cooking-related incidents, it’s important to immediately put the wound under cool water for at least 10 minutes. 
  • Dry the wound and apply Savlon Advanced Healing Gel or Savlon Antiseptic Cream directly to the wound with clean hands.
  • Savlon Advanced Healing Gel can help soothe the pain and also create optimal healing conditions due to its hydro-active colloid properties.

How to use:

  1. Wash your hands prior to the application. 
  2. Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly.
  3. Apply a small amount of Savlon Advanced Healing Gel/Savlon Antiseptic Cream with a clean fingertip but do not massage. 
  4. If required, cover the affected area with a bandage/ plaster. 
  5. Repeat up to twice a day, if required.

Can Savlon prevent wounds or burns from leaving a scar?

Savlon Advanced Healing Gel contains hydro-active colloid gel to create optimal healing conditions to support the skin's healing process and helps to reduce the likelihood of scarring.

  • Savlon Antiseptic Cream can be used to cleanse and treat minor skin problems, including spots & blackheads.
  • It can also be used to prevent infection in the affected areas.

How to use:

Can Savlon be used internally?

No, all Savlon products are strictly for external use only and should not be used internally. Avoid contact with the eyes, middle ear, meninges and other nervous tissue.

  • Savlon Advanced Healing Gel can be used on all forms of minor burns including sunburn to help soothe the pain. The gel also works to support the skin's natural healing process and reduce the likelihood of scarring by creating the optimum moist healing conditions.

  • Clean the area before applying Savlon Advanced Healing Gel. Apply once or twice a day with clean hands without rubbing. If necessary, cover with a plaster or dressing and change daily.

Savlon for blisters & sores

  •  The most common cause of blisters is friction against soft or moist skin. Broken blisters can be susceptible to infection because the protective outer skin is broken and the wound underneath is exposed. 
  • Whether the blister is broken or still intact, it’s important to keep it clean and covered with a dressing to protect it.
  • Savlon Antiseptic Cream can be applied to the blister before the dressing to help reduce pain as well as to help prevent infection during the healing process.

Savlon for shaving cuts

  • Shaving cuts can be particularly painful and bleed a lot which can make them difficult to treat.
  • Shaving cuts on the face may take longer to heal if the skin is moving more through facial movements so the application of  Savlon Antiseptic Cream will help to prevent infection.

Sometimes even when the wound has stopped bleeding it can still be wet and hard to treat. Savlon Advanced Healing Gel can be used for dry or wet wounds.

  • Nappy rash can be hot and sore which can make your baby feel uncomfortable and distressed. It can be prevented with the use of barrier cream to protect the baby's skin.
